Imagine having to teach two different classes two times a day with only one other teacher on your team. This is what half teams must do. They plan for two different classes and see the same kids twice. There are a lot of pros and cons about it. We asked Mrs. Ball and Ms. Gieseking a few questions and this is what they said. First, we asked them what they thought when first finding out they were going to 7th grade on a half team, Gieseking said she originally requested to go to math, so she knew she was going to seventh grade from science. She was excited about teaching math and coming back to seventh grade, slightly nervous about having to plan for 2 different things. Mrs. Ball said, “Honestly, I cried because I didn’t know who I was moving up with and because my old team worked so well together and had such a great connection.” Next, we asked what the pros and cons of teaching the same kids two different subjects twice a day. Mrs. Ball said, “I get to see you guys more and understand your strengths and weaknesses. Also, I get to see whether you like social studies better or ELA better. If you guys don’t like me, you might be sick of seeing me.” We asked a student from Liberty Middle School on team 73, Alaina Pagano, the best part and the worst part about being on a half team. She said, “The best part is having lots of friends on the team because we all kind of stick together…and I don’t like it because I like going to different teachers’ rooms and experiencing different things.” We also asked Zoi bolden on Team 73 if she likes being on a half team. She answered, “Yes, because most of my friends are on this team and I just like being on a small team” Do you think you would like to be on a half team?
