In March of 2025, the Scholastic Book Fair came to Liberty Middle School. The Scholastic Book Fair is an immersive experience where kids all around the country can buy books tailored to their interests. The Scholastic Book Fair has raised over $241+ million, and these funds are returned to schools in Scholastic dollars, where they can purchase more books for their libraries.
Sylvia Peterson, a Liberty Middle School staff member, is the coordinator of the book fair. Her job is to schedule the week-long event, coordinate delivery and pick up, advertise, request volunteers, set up the library, and collect funds daily. In an interview, Sylvia said her favorite thing about the Scholastic Book Fair is “…seeing the students purchasing new books that they are excited about reading.”
Olivia Frailey is an 8th grader at Liberty Middle School. In an interview, Olivia said that her favorite thing about the Scholastic Book Fair is “the horror book section.” She enjoyed how easy it was to navigate, and she was easily able to find the books she was interested in. Olivia said that her overall experience was positive.
