All 7th graders in honors ELA at Liberty Middle School, including Stella Barnett and Reese Jackson, make children’s books for first grade students at Goshen Elementary School. Stella’s first grader is Henry. Her book was about Samie the snake. He started off with no friends because everyone in the animal world didn’t look like him, so they didn’t want to be friends with him. Samie helps a turtle and realizes that you can be friends with anyone, no matter what they look like. This story gives Henry a good visual on how you can be friends with anyone. Whenever you are still young you are figuring out your friendships, and this story is perfectly showing that your friends can be anyone. Reese’s first grader is named Jemma. Her story to Jemma was about how a girl and her dog were going on a walk through the forest when her dog got lost. The girl was searching and searching for her dog. After many hours she wanted to quit, but she knew that she could not stop. After more looking, she found the dog. This perfectly pictures that if you never give up you might just find what you are looking for. These two amazing 7th graders are helping first graders build reading skills and teaching them important life lessons.
