The 2026 track and field season tryouts have just ended. They had their first meet on Thursday March 26; the meet was only Liberty competing against themselves. At the meet they brought officials, and all the things they use at real track meets. The track team has their first real meet on Tuesday, March 31st against Coolidge, Cahokia and Lincoln at Liberty. One athlete we interviewed was Joss Menossi. This year Joss runs the 4 by 200, 4 by 400, long jump and 100-meter hurdles. She says her goals for this season are “to make it to state in hurdles.” Last year at the state tournament Joss ran 4 by 200 and hurdles.
Another athlete we interviewed is a distance runner, Evan Thompson. Evan’s goals for this season are to “beat the school record for the mile and the 800.” His favorite event is the 400 but he is best in the mile. At the recent meet, Evan ran the 800. His time was 2 minutes and 21 seconds in which he placed 2nd. Another track athlete we interviewed was Cade Baugh; this is his first year doing track. He says one of his goals for this season is to “break 5:50 in the mile.” He also says that his favorite event is the 800. There are tons of different events you can try in track including throwing and jumping. If you like running come tryout next season for Liberty Track and Field.
