Das ist eine Schlagzeile

You might need to take Liberty’s new class to find out what that headline means.

The newest class added to the 2021-2022 school year is world language and culture. This is a class where 8th graders learn German, French, and usual Spanish.

Many students are happy about the change. Soha Rahman said, “It’s fun to learn more about different languages than I’m used to.”

The change was also needed as fewer people were trying new languages in high school. Learning about other cultures and traditions can help if you ever travel.

Mrs. Keeven is one of two world language and culture teachers. The other is Mr. Smith.

Mrs. Keeven was originally just a Spanish teacher, but was thrown unexpectedly into German and French. Over the summer Mrs. Keeven had to quickly prepare herself for learning German and French.

Mrs. Keeven said,” Spanish will be second nature.”

However when asked about German and French, she spoke of the difficulties learning them in such a short amount of time. Last year she had to take a break from teaching Spanish and taught 7th grade social studies. Mrs. Keeven enjoyed it, but it discouraged her a lot due to all the classroom switching she had to do.

This year, everything is more organized and she is back to her roots in teaching languages.

The change was also needed as fewer people were trying new languages in high school. Learning about other cultures and traditions can help if you ever travel.

Overall, many students are enjoying the class and the new learning opportunity.

Hunter Lading said, “It’s fun to learn with everyone.”

Eighth grade student Emma Birkenmeyer said, “It’s a welcoming and safe classroom.”

This class is a great upgrade and many students are quite happy to learn of new cultures and language.

By the way, the headline is German for “This is a headline.”
